As much as I love the luxury of an extended skincare routine, which often turns into a bit of a pamper; incorporating treatments, masks, enough lotions and potions to open a small apothecary and takes around 30 minutes – it’s not the most convenient for travel. I spent last week in Thailand chilling out, gulping down some fresh air and being dragged up mountains by my parents. It was an annual holiday I swore I’d never do again once I turned 16, but by 26 I’ve softened and actually enjoyed an international jaunt. It was low-key and the glamest it got was a nightly trip to the local market so my beauty stuff was kept to a minimum and after much consideration I plumped for a streamlined, stripped-back skincare stash:

My face base habit has a got a little bit out of control. It wasn’t until I was explaining my makeup collection to my friends and heard myself say the phrase, “Well the top drawer is for heavy-coverage foundations, the next one is for lighter ones, then I’ve got one full of tinted moisturisers….’ saw their jaws drop and tailed off. Yes I’m Gauri, and I have a foundation problem. Surprisingly it’s the step that I shrug off the most, but bottles of the stuff dominate my stash, so I’ve had a bit of a clear out – my friend’s faces are now positively beaming (and looking pretty flawless) – and I think if push came to shove I could live out the rest of my days with just four key cover-ups in my possession to mix, match and buff on. Let’s christen this the ‘Face Base Wardrobe’…

Is it a neutral? No. Is it pale? No. Is it a pastel? Ummmm, not sure. My current lacquer loves that I’ve been flashing on my fingertips don’t fall neatly into a colour family at all, but sort of make a new category of their own, being of a mix of all the aforementioned shades. Soft, delicate and a nice autumn alternative to the blues I was sporting all monsoon, and the pinks of the past few months. Perfect for both sets of paws, I like to wear them paired with a stack of gold and turquoise set rings for a bit of festive flavour. Sally Hansen’s Triple Shine Nail Enamel in Drama Sheen heads up the pack and is the lightest of the trio. My favourite is Colorbar Nail Polish in Baby Peach, which has a touch of orange to it, making it the most eye-catching. The Lakme Absolute Gel Stylist Nail Colour in Caramel Melt is a stunner and the hardiest in formula – five days without even a touch of tip wear, and it’s under Rs.500.

With the arrival of some soft colours, it seems autumn has finally arrived. Well, on my nails at least…

Every now and again at the beginning of a product love-affair, I have one of those light bulb moments. Ta-dah! Maybe it’s because it’s true to its word, performs its function like no other or the formula is just so time/space/product saving – whatever the reason behind my beauty epiphany something that gives me a eureka moment is sure to go to the top of my cosmetic charts. The following four picks all monopolise their respective categories, have got me stroking my non-existent beard and exerting a knowing ‘ah-ha’…

I love Lakme eyeliners and these new ones are all about different shades. I have Royal Blue which is absolutely perfect for me. Here’s the low down on the Lakme Eyeconic Kajal.

MAC and I have a bit of an on/off relationship. Back in the day when I discovered there was more to explore in the beauty world than the aisles of Health & Glow I went a little cray cray, stowed away MAC eyeshadows in double-digit numbers and possessed quite the penchant for their lipsticks. But in recent times, though their lippies will always hold a special place in my heart – D for Danger and Dangerous are my current colour crushes – things have been looking a little bleak on the MAC front. That was until I was bullied into a purchase of their Fluidline in Blacktrack and the MAC ball was placed back into rolling motion. A quick trip into their Phoenix Market City store each time I’ve popped into the mall and before you know it, I’ve acquired some mini MAC haulage.

Because there’s only one thing better than a weekend pamper sesh – a DIY groom with products that smell ridiculously amazing, right? So good in fact, that you tend to go heavy handed just to eek out that whiff a little bit more (see my description below of the The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Face Mask which will explain why I go to bed after a skincare session every night). So this weekend I’m bringing out the sweet scented big guns…
