I’ve been hacking my nails into a square-like fashion since I can remember. My best friend and I used to stock up on the French Manicure sets on the way home from school and file our nails into oblivion before getting our white tips on. It was a thrice weekly occurrence. And after years of trimming them straight across, the whole square shape thing just became my thang. But for the past few seasons nails have been eking out into a more almond shape – ‘a curve that reflects that of your cuticle’ – is a term I’ve heard being tossed around. And it got me thinking, it’s time to crack out the Nail File and get to work on softening those edges.

Nothing sets off a pair of sunglasses quite like a loud pout for me. I’m not one to play around with colour – experimentation in that forte is confined to lips and tips only – but I’ve been swatching around with textures, shades and trends of the former and came across something that just clicked into place. It’s not the most seasonal of discoveries, but paired with a simple complexion and some sunglasses, a good matte textured bold lip is where it’s at. A single statement finish that requires minimal upkeep and wins points on longevity without the tooth-smudging stress. Now we’re talking. Here’s two of my faves that I’ve been swiping on when the sunnies come out to play…

As a general rule I like to have a rough idea of what the landscape of G&M will look like for the next week. I sit down on a Monday, notepad in one hand and scribble down what I fancy popping up on the blog for the next seven days or so. Sometimes I stick to the book and sometimes I don’t. Today is an example of when I don’t. After trying something a little different nail-wise last night, while keeping one eye on lacquer activities and the other on Mad Men; I did a manicure which seemed rather well. Cue me having a bedside photo shoot at 11.30 pm last night, clad out in pyjamas followed by a 7 am blog writing session which cumulated with today’s original post being scrapped. But when the creative juices are flowin’, there just ain’t no stopping them. Here’s what all the fuss was about…

You know I’m not opposed to a bold lip lately. But on a day-to-day basis the pitfalls of sporting a brash lipstick still lead to me wearing them less than I’d like to. The dreaded outer-line that’s left after devouring a plateful pizza (a frequent occurrence), bleeding, hair-streaked lines across the face on a windy day and of course the whole lippie on the teeth thing. When I’m calculating this little beauty formula each morning at my dresser more often than not I end up reaching for a clear nude. Gawd I’m just too experimental for my own good sometimes. But I’ve found a balance to this lippie equation that results in a flush of low-maintance colour without the outlined above catches. Let me present the non-groundbreaking, painfully simple ‘Smudged-On Lip’ technique…

feline flick products

These ‘Trend’ posts I do, they can be pretty testing, you know! All in the name of blogging eh? Sometimes it all works out and I fall in love with a new weird and wonderful look and other times it can all end up a little ‘meh’ – but isn’t that the beauty of it all? (Excuse the awful pun). This makeup definitely leans more towards the later category, but that’s not to say all hope is lost, there’s just perhaps a little room for improvement. But here’s my take on the feline flick that popped up all over the AW15 catwalks, most notably the lavish Lanvin models.

MAC Viva Glam Miley

Firstly I must preface this post by saying that I actually wore the results of this ‘Trend’ post outside, in front of people. I gobbled down a burger, slurped on a milkshake, chattered away for hours and this lipstick didn’t go anywhere. One sneaky reapplication in the loo of Phoenix is all that was needed and I was one happy bunny. Surely that deems this a fully wearable trend, right? Touches of hot pink were splashed across the runways of SS15 shows – cheeks, eyes, lips – you name it. But I thought I’d ease myself in with a simple hot pink lip…

Rose products

‘Indian rose’ isn’t probably a term that would be banded about to describe my look. But I gave my best shot all in the name of trends to give a nod to the naturally flushed, outdoorsy look as seen on the runways of Sabyasachi Mukherjee and DRVV…
