Category: Weekend Post

I’m not all that seasoned in the art of evening entertainment anymore. The 8 pm – 12 pm slot in my life is most regularly filled with playing catch-up with House of Cards – if I can fit two episodes in I deem it a successful night – bath time and resisting the urge to go to town on that tub of Baskin & Robin’s choco chip that’s languishing in our freezer. Rock n’ roll. But when my girlfriends came to visit last weekend, I hauled on my highest pair of heels, headed for town and saved Frank for another time. Here’s the makeup menu for my Girl’s Night Out:

I’m a Mumbaikar. I’ve memorised the railway map, only have one walking speed – fast – and have tucked into vadapav porn at many a fair share of ‘trendy pop-ups’. But more importantly than all of that, I’ve trekked across all of the makeup-filled hotspots. From big ol’ department stores to those less-footed yep, I’ve devoured them all and have the slightly dented bank balance to prove it. So for this weekend’s post I thought I’d take you for a tour of Mumbai’s best beauty landmarks, quite literally…

Come on you don’t need me to tell you about my highly organisational tendencies again, do you? The weekend for me is wholeheartedly reserved to eating, sleeping and tidying my beauty tools and arsenal (as vastly documented in this feature). Amongst the cleaning and clearing that goes on, every few weeks I like to sit and work through my stash. Throwing items back into the drawer mix that have been missing in action or are new to the clan. Out with the usual suspects and in with something a little different. Here’s what caught my eye today and has subsequently earned their place in my daily grind rotation…

Two years ago my face was an oil-free product zone. Being the oily skin type category I winced at my greasy T-zone and slapped on products more likely to be aimed at the teenage section. Stripping, foaming and most definitely oil-free formulas; the drier my skin felt the happier I was. Fast forward to the present day and my skincare set-up couldn’t look more different. Age, life and my general disregard of my recommended water intake (it goes right through me if you get my drift), has wedged my complexion in the more combination grouping so I like to layer on emollient creams, balm textured cleansers and a hell’a load of oils. The latter being the most satisfying product to apply of the bunch. A mini spa-esque massage each night propped up at my basin – my skin drinks up the stuff. Here’s the need to know on the oily ointment that I’ve tailored into my routine…

I’m tired. You know those weeks where you forget what it’s like to have your little toosh settle on a nice comfy sofa and you’ve lost all feeling in your feet due to marching through the streets in your ‘oh so lovely looking, but oh so painful‘ kitten heels? Well it’s been one of those weeks. A good’un, but one that’s left me day-dreaming about my soft, soft duvet. So I’m not messing around today with a fussy routine. It’s a product rotation that’s tried and tested and just does its job; bringing me back to the land of living with some serious R&R, all combined with a mid-afternoon nap I think. 2 products, that’s all – it’s time to bring out the big guns…

The scene is set and today I’m revisiting my old stomping ground; I love nothing more than slathering on a face mask at the weekend (well aside from eating my own body weight in puddings). It’s a step that I usually forget until Sunday rolls round and that way I can cap my usage to make sure I’m not OD’ing on the stuff. Recently there’s been much love given to one so here’s the need-to-know on it…

Good read

In past weeks I have become slightly obsessed with transforming the function of our coffee table from occasional footrest and free paper dumping ground into ‘cool book’ placeholder. I’ve swept away the month old Times of Indias and am slowly replacing them with pages of goodness of my choice stacked high. But I’m not going all Hemmingway on your ass, I’m talking pages packed with my favourite topics – romantic fiction. I’ve found the Amazon book section to hold some absolute gems and as I’ve spent a large proportion of this weekend packed tightly on trains I’ll be taking a bit of a time-out and curling up in the window seat getting my teeth into some of these beauties.
