“It’s getting hot in here, so get some colour on” – I’m sure that’s how that Nelly song went right? I kid, I kid. I still know all the words to that tune (yes, tune), 15 years post its release – yep even all the rappy bits too. But in the spirit of April’s Beauty Bag lets just go with the revised hook cause in India we’re starting to experience summer and having exhausted all bronzey, highlighted, glowy options in my makeup arsenal I’m vowing to add a splash of shading from the other end of the spectrum this month; pinks, oranges, blues, greens. You might want to be sitting down for this one…

When spring gets cheeky with Faces and has a small baby, it’s a guaranteed formula that ends with a generous handful of new shades entering into my nail polish inn. I received a duo from their Splash collection and it was approximately six hours before my favourite of the bunch, Aureolin made its way onto my nails. A straight-up yellow complete with high shine, it’s love. Now I’m not usually one for brightness in my lacquer, but this whole sun induced appearance is something I can appreciate – good thing really as the other one, the green Go Green has this barely there shine.

With what seems like every light base lover in the world declaring their unwavering HG status stamped adoration for Lakme’s CC Complexion Care Cream, the launch of their accompanying CC Colour Transform Cream wasn’t going to be hush hush. It snuck onto counters a month or so ago and surprise surprise a package arrived at my doorstep. But does it live up to its much celebrated Complexion Care sibling…

I’ve been hacking my nails into a square-like fashion since I can remember. My best friend and I used to stock up on the French Manicure sets on the way home from school and file our nails into oblivion before getting our white tips on. It was a thrice weekly occurrence. And after years of trimming them straight across, the whole square shape thing just became my thang. But for the past few seasons nails have been eking out into a more almond shape – ‘a curve that reflects that of your cuticle’ – is a term I’ve heard being tossed around. And it got me thinking, it’s time to crack out the Nail File and get to work on softening those edges.

I think it’s fair to say that I pull the contents of my whole beauty wishlist and wishlist-turned-purchases from the Internet. From other bloggers, from the comments under my posts, a copious amount of YouTube viewing, enabling tweets alerting me that I need something/a product I’ve wishlisted has come back into stock/sale items that it would be rude to not take advantage off, etc etc. I love ’em. And take your recommendations in like a super absorbent sponge that likes to go shopping, so I thought I’d tap into them a little further and see what gems you would suggest for some slots that are currently unfilled in my stash…

sheer and sheeny makeup

Raising the roof with another no-makeup, how-many-products-can-I-cut-it-down-till-it’s-zero no makeup look; yep, I’m doing it. I just can’t help myself. But after a peruse through the archives last week it’s never been clearer that I’m in the grips of a minimal makeup moment. Less is more and all that and right now I’m embracing the sheen more than ever – no powder in sight just glow-givers and a slick of that ol’ fave Lakme’s Skin Gloss Cream. It may just look like every other makeup I’ve snapped and clicked publish on *cough* it is *cough*, but there are some newer acquisitions in there which are really rather good. Hear me out…

A deep burgundy lipstick?! I know, are you sitting down? On paper, the Lakme 9 to 5 Matte Lipstick in Burgundy Business and a peachy lip lover like myself look like we wouldn’t get on. But you know what, I loove it. Matte, opaque and just the right tooth-whitening, lip popping flash of berry, I see this becoming quite the sunshine’s out shade for me. If this was sheer, I’m not sure I’d be as hot on it. But the fact that one quick swipe coats on just the right amount of a your lips but a burgundier hue and leaves them feeling nicely nourished, I’m in. It almost reminds me of the shade you get when you’ve a kala khatta gola – not too crazy. Mascara: required, the rest of your makeup: optional.

I picked mine up from a rather fruitful Health & Glow trip. At Rs.365 it’s the cheapest pick of the pack, and for berry summer lips, I’m sorted.
