The ‘New’ Lip Pencils

Lip pencils aren’t what they used to be – oh no. Although the classic matte-formula ‘draw around your lip line’ thingies are still around, there’s a new generation of lipstick/lip balm/lip stain hybrids all packaged up into handy pencil form that seem to be the flavour of the month right now. So here’s a run-down of the 2 that I’ve got locked up in my stash…

First up – Max Factor Color Elixir Giant Pen Stick. I picked up one of these for the first time last month and plumped for the shade Designer Blossom. Out of the 2 this is probably the most ‘well-rounded’ – pigmented colour, a glossy sheen and it’s pretty moisturising too. The only thing that dissapointed me was the shade range; all the shades seemed quite dark, no peachy pink to be seen! Say what? Max Factor are missing out on a trick there, if they bought out a shade like that I’d stock up by the bucket load! Next up is one of the newer ones on the scene, the L’Oreal Glam Shine Balmy Gloss in Lychee Lust. I’ve cracked this out in quite a few posts recently, it’s a great ‘your lips but a little pinker and glossier’ shade. Unfortunately there are only three shades to pick from here and they’re not particularly long-lasting but a good choice for a nice touch of moisturising gloss on the go.

The good thing with both of these is that none of them require sharpening – just a little twist at the end is all that’s needed to reveal more product. But for me, not one of them hits the nail exactly on the head just yet – I’ll be throwing my arms in the air in excitable shapes when a long-lasting nude peachy pink balm stain lip pencil thingie-ma-jig hits the market, in India. So who wants to give that a go?

  • None f these types of lip balm pencils are long lasting, but I don’t think they claim to be. They are great to just throw in your purse 🙂

    • I’m assuming it’s not the same formula that you might have tried, so maybe that’s why!

  • Ha I’m not that big on jump pencils in general. I prefer old-school lipsticks! I think the only jumbo pencil I like is Clinique Curviest Caramel, because it’s a hybrid of MLBB and the perfect nude 🙂

    • Happy to hear that Curviest Caramel worked for you, Sunny!

  • Unfortunately these product are not available in my area yet, but as soon as they’re on the shelves – I’m picking them up! I love lip crayons and hope these will be worth trying 😉
If you’d like you could check out my new blog – I’d be honored 😉

    • Totally understand!

  • I love chubby lip pencils. Haven’t tried either of these ones though, they both look really pretty.
