The Reading List

I don’t have much of an off-switch when it comes to reading. It’s about two minutes into dinner with my friends before I quiz them on what book they’re reading and free time is a largely reading dominated activity too. I’m like a sponge, me – absorbing all the book chatter up from every corner – I do love a good book. There’s something about packing out a bookshelf with a bevy of reads that feels just as satisfying as an A-Z brand organised makeup drawer. A welcome alternative to the bright back light of my laptop. Open up my current reading list…

Throne of Glass was a ‘damn I just want to buy something’ purchase when the other book I wanted was out of stock. It’s a fantastic read. I’d go so far as to put it on my list of favorite series of all time; it’s that good. I’ve already begun reading it’s sequel Crown of Midnight. Sarah J. Maas’ novel follows a young warrior named Celaena Sardothien as she competes to win her freedom from a slave camp and become the king’s assassin. Throughout the novel, she discovers that someone or something is killing off the champions that are competing against one another. Her search for the killer leads her to learn even greater things about herself.

Aside from having an amazingly snarky and strong female heroine as well as some other great characters, the novel’s world is incredibly rich and fleshed out. Maas nails world building: You can clearly envision the kingdom of Adarlan, and let me tell you, it’s a big kingdom. Maas even gives us insight into the history of Adarlan throughout the whole series. This is a bold statement, but I’d say this series is on par with Harry Potter in this respect. If you want to enter a completely new world, this is the series for you.

Rounding of my reads is Cosmopolitan, of course. Do I even need to mention this one again? My subscription ended, so I’ve turned to picking up my hit at Crossword which is quite easily the best Rs.150 I spend each month.

Initiation into the bookworm club complete, additions to the reading list are welcomed and as always my pen is on note taking standby. And just remember, if we ever meet, have your novel name handy cause I will ask for it.
