The Weekend Post #34: Girl’s Night Out

I’m not all that seasoned in the art of evening entertainment anymore. The 8 pm – 12 pm slot in my life is most regularly filled with playing catch-up with House of Cards – if I can fit two episodes in I deem it a successful night – bath time and resisting the urge to go to town on that tub of Baskin & Robin’s choco chip that’s languishing in our freezer. Rock n’ roll. But when my girlfriends came to visit last weekend, I hauled on my highest pair of heels, headed for town and saved Frank for another time. Here’s the makeup menu for my Girl’s Night Out:

My self concocted Saturday night brief was for something slightly smokey, but leaning to the more subtle end of the spectrum. My base was fixed by a combo of the Maybelline Clear Glow BB Stick (no flashback, scores major points for longevity) and my ol’ favourite Almay Line Smoothing Concealer in Light/Medium. I kept it pretty bare on the cheeks, waiting for my impending bar-induced sweatiness to emit some sort of highlighting sheen. Then I moved onto what could possibly be deemed the easiest smoked-out eye look ever – the deep brown from Studiowest’s Maya Crystal Eye Shadow in Goldmine, applied all over the lid with a MAC 217 brush and blended at the edges, paired with lashings of Colorbar Zoom & Whoosh Mascara on the lashes. Done.

A jovial evening was had by all. And yes, we still went to town on that Baskin & Robin’s tub when we got back. But after a weekend of excess, a wee little detox is needed – I think next weekend calls for a mud mask (or two)…
