If you’re a regular scroller on G&M you know by now that I’m partial to a good beauty read. I rarely manage to switch my brain to mute when it comes to the cosmetics world and that does include when I’m snuggled up, head on pillow about 20 minutes prior to deep slumber. In fact it’s perhaps the time at which it is most active given the current wad of makeup-filled pages that are overcrowding my bedside table. There’s barely room for my lamp. So this weekend I thought I’d mull over and share the best of my beauty reads.

The Makeup Manual by Lisa Potter-Dixon – one of my favourites from my beauty library. Amazing book, beautifully illustrated and packed full of useful face information. Genius.

The Feelgood Plan by Dalton Wong & Kate Faithfull-Williams – I’ve given a nod to this book before here and after completing it I conclude that it’s the perfect ‘bus book’; great for nipping in and out of and with the ability to transport you to another place. The main message in the book is that changing your lifestyle really is a choice.

Younger Skin Starts in the Gut by Dr. Nigma Talib – well isn’t this a great book? It really helped clear up my skin and digestion issues. Most excitingly, clearing up my gut really helped with my sugar addiction. I’ve still got a box of half eaten chocolate chip cookies in my freezer from weeks ago, and I don’t even want one talking about now!

Bobbi Brown Makeup Manual by Bobbi Brown – ah shucks, I just love this book. From base to black liner – this book is a bevy of beauty tips straight from Bobbi’s studio, along with a plethora of pictured step-by-steps. There isn’t a makeup step left untouched by the time you get to the last page. See my latest ode to it here with my must-read pages handily noted down for you.

Everything Eyes by Bobbi Brown – my current read. The book is wonderful and a great gift for any make-up loving woman in your life. I really enjoy the way the book is organized because I find it very easy to stroll through the book and find tips that actually fit my face.

Eat Pretty by Jolene Hart – Jolene is the giver of arguably the best nutrition advice in the world. Agreed? So when she put pen to paper on the subject of all things beauty, I couldn’t not pick this up. It’s a little fluffy in places and she reveals how the best beauty products are as close as your local market, and there are some nice how-tos. Blending nutritional science with delicious writing, she presents the surprising beauty benefits of the foods you’ve known all along.

Six reads and there’s something for everyone; just a makeup magpie mindset is required. Time to make space on your bedside table…
